Who can ride a scooter?
In order to take to the back of your chosen 50cc scooter, you will need to undertake Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). This is as much of a legal requirement as a driving license is for driving a car, so ensure that you book yourself in before taking to any public roads.
To ride a 50cc scooter you must be above the age of 16, however, should you wish to ride anything up to an engine size of 125cc you must be over the age of 17. In both instances, you will need to display ‘L' plates unless you take and pass the Motorcycle Test.
Another legal requirement to bear in mind is that, to ride any scooter, you must wear a helmet. No other protective clothing is necessary by law, but you might wish to purchase some gloves to protect your hands from the cold, and from the risk of injury should the unlikely event of an accident ensue.
How environmentally friendly are 50cc scooters?
Due to the high mpg that you can expect to get from a 50cc scooter it is easy to see that these vehicles are certainly more environmentally friendly than cars or motorcycles. To ensure your emissions are as low as possible as you scoot to and from your destinations, ensure that you choose a four stroke scooter at the outset instead of the more polluting two stroke scooters that burn oil as well as just unleaded petrol.
