What Type of Mobility Scooter Should You Buy?

Accidents can change a person's whole life in the blink of an eye.  One minute you are walking on the road whistling your favorite tune and the next minute lying on the curb helplessly waiting for help.  After being disabled, the first thing a person wants is to be able to move around without depending on someone's assistance.  Mobility scooters make this dream come true.  The next thing after deciding to purchase a mobility scooter is to gather information about different types of scooters available in the market.

There are three main types of mobility scooters: traditional scooters, travel scooters and heavy-duty scooters.

Traditional Scooters

For people who want a relatively lightweight but sturdy scooter, traditional scooters can fulfill their needs.  They can be easily used inside a home as well as outside on a variety of terrain.  These scooters have advantages and disadvantages of both other type of scooters.  They are relatively difficult to assemble due to the weight of the parts and also not as easy to transport.

Travel Scooters

The best thing about travel scooters is that these are easy to carry, lightweight and can be assembled without much hassle.  They can be stored in the trunk of a car or can be taken along on a plane ride.  These scooters can be easily taken apart and loaded up on a vehicle.  So you can go almost anywhere you want.  There are, however, a few downsides to these machines.  These scooters can't carry much weight and also have reduced functionality.  Most of the additional features available in other scooters are not offered in travel scooters.

Heavy Duty Scooters

Heavy Duty Scooters can carry a considerable amount of weight and easily move on rough terrain.  Wide tires, reinforced frame and other safety features make them safe to drive anywhere.  They are not just sturdy; several additional features like cushioned seats and excellent suspensions make them comfortable also.  The same qualities that make them a great choice for rough use also put some limitations on them.  Their larger size and extra weight makes them difficult to carry and also difficult to use inside the home.  Assembling or disassembling them is also relatively more difficult.

While getting opinions from other users can be helpful in purchasing, the decision should be made strictly according to your specific needs and requirements.  Since the scooter will act as an extension of your body it has to be very dependable and convenient to use.
