Some of the things you need to know before you buy a motorcycle. Today we have many different types of motorcycles available for street transportation and long distance traveling. In the dirt-bike category covers many kinds of off-road motorcycles. Here is some information on motorcycles that fit into the different categories.

The road bikes or touring motorcycles are in a class all their own. Touring motorcycles are built for comfort and many options for traveling. Larger and more comfortable on the highways they carry more fuel and luggage for cross-country motorcycle trips. Some have intercom available to communicate with passengers. Satellite radio and many other options onboard GPS so you don't get lost.
Custom motorcycles cover a larger category because cruisers, choppers, customized bikes, three wheel motorcycles or trike's all go into this category. Custom motorcycles covers a large category because they are build for many reasons that include for show, cruising, racing or to just be more comfortable to ride. Bigger engines different front forks high-rise handle-bars and lots of chrome.
Racing motorcycles do fit into a category all their own. Some are built for the quarter mile drag-racing, the dirt-track, or high-speed café racers built to maneuver through hair-pin turns.
Motorcycle Engines
The next area of concern to buy a motorcycle is the engine. The motorcycle engine is the back-bone of the machine and should sway your choice in buying. Many factors come into play like the condition it's in or the amount of power output. Here are some tips to keep you on track in making your selection.
How much power is not measured by physical size. Displacement or CC (cubic centimeter) is the measurement that most manufacturers utilize. Enormous power is not needed for scooters and mopeds or the short haul city street bikes.
Motorcycle Weight
A consideration for some is the motorcycles overall weight. The overall weight has a bearing on the type of frame used. There are two basic types of motorcycle frames you will want to know about.
Most motorcycles are constructed with a tubular frame. They are proven to be light and durable and are used for most applications. The solid steel frames you can still find today are much heavier and are still used on heavy touring long haul motorcycles.
Motorcycle Price
In general motorcycles are cheaper than cars. Unless you are talking about the custom class then price can be anything based on the chrome and options used in the design and the engine used. So do your home-work first by deciding what you will use your motorcycle for. Decide on a budget and include costs to maintain it. You do not want to buy the most expensive or the cheapest but you do want to buy the motorcycle that matches you your budget and what you want it for.
It does not matter if it is the open road or back country both are enjoyed by motorcycle enthusiasts. The freedom you desire can only be had from a motorcycle so choose wisely and the thrill is sure to please you for many years to come.
