History

The Cushman Company operated in the scooter manufacturing industry from 1903 to 2003. The enterprise started its operation in Lincoln, Nebraska through its main promoters Everett and Clinton Cushman. In 1913, the company was formally incorporated as Cushman Motor Works.

Until 1936, the organization manufactured engines for farm pumps, equipment, boats, as well as lawn mowers. The motor scooters were produced from 1936 until 1965, and were widely utilized by the United States military throughout World War II.

These motor vehicles were also utilized as a good replacement to cars before and after the war. When the production of scooters halted, the company began to create industrial vehicles, golf carts, and turf maintenance equipment.

These scooters weighed around 250 to 335 pounds. They had as much as 9 horsepower or about 6.7 kW. Their development stopped in 1965, though remaining Eagles were offered until 1966.

Cushman scooters have become the Holy Grail of scooter collectors. These extremely popular scooters that originated in Nebraska with the artistry and quality of Midwestern values are a true collector's "must have".

Some of the Cushman motor scooters produced in 1965 remain in existence today because of their durability and robustness. There are even some groups today that exclusively focus on the bequest and history of these classic scooters.
