Why Are More Kids Are Riding Micro Scooters?

Micro scooters have emerged as one of the more popular means of transportation for younger kids. Skateboards are still popular but they require a rider to have some knowledge about where they can be ridden, sidewalks and parking lots have begun to post city ordinances disallowing skateboarding.

Although disobeying such laws only hurt the skateboarders some cities have constructed skate parks to give those who want to skate a safe and controlled environment. I'm not against skateboarding but I've seen a few accidents that could have been avoided if such city laws were obeyed. I haven't seen any ordinances baring micro scooters.

The safety of a micro scooter is better than a skateboard because a micro scooter has a T-handle that allows the rider to stand upright and have total control while steering. Since the handles are narrower unlike bicycle handlebars the rider is required to hold on at all times.

The micro scooter is easy to steer and the handle grips are made of a soft spongy rubber. The base of a micro scooter is about half the size of a skateboards base, it usually has some granulated strips that minimize foot slippage so the rider won't fall off.

There is also a brake on a micro scooter, it's on the back wheel and its friction activated when the rider steps back on the metal housing covering the back wheel.

It's not like brakes on a bicycle but it slows down the scooter considerably, since micro scooters don't reach speeds that are dangerous a rider can always step off the scooter and stop it that way.

Parents are probably more apt to buy a micro scooter than a skateboard because of those safety features. I'm not saying don't buy the helmet and elbow pads but knowing that such features are not offered on other self propelled toys might help parents with that decision.

If your child is wanting a micro scooter its best to go shopping with them, you'll find many colors and varieties to choose from. Most have adjustable handles so even a smaller rider can still have fun. The wheels are very durable and even those come in different colors to match the scooters color. micro scooters are a statement for some kids.

Prices range from $30.00 to $160.00; it depends on the brand name and style so shop around. Skateboards can cost that much too, but the micro scooter's safety features ensure that you won't have as many accidents.

Micro scooters are become the preferred mode of transportation for kids because they don't use any gas; they are self propelled and inexpensive to buy. They are made tough and even the most active kids can ride them for a long time before anything needs to be replaced.

The only wear and tear you'll find is the handle grips and the occasional scraped handles. The micro scooter doesn't have a micro stand so many times kids will let them fall over on the driveway or ground. Its best to ride with tennis shoes but its not required. Flip flops or sandals can be worn but it's a little harder to get a good push off with open toed shoes.

Parents like the idea of kids having their own mode of transportation, it won't replace the long drive to practice but it allows kids more freedom to be mobile. Buy a good backpack for the kids so they can fold their scooters up and keep them safe. Currently there are no anti-theft features for a micro scooter.
