Electric Mobility Scooter Tip – Take Good Care of the Battery
Electric mobility scooters have done wonders for the elderly, the paraplegic, as well as those suffering from multiple sclerosis or other walking disabilities. These battery operated vehicles have given people with walking disabilities the independence and freedom of movement that they could have only dreamed of just a few decades ago.
However, if you want the electric scooter to take care of you, you need to take care of it! And one of the most important aspects of caring for your electric mobility scooter is maintaining the battery. Here are a few tips for ensuring your electric scooter's battery is always in tip-top shape:
Keep'em Charged
Electric scooter manufacturers highly recommend that owners keep their scooter batteries constantly charged in order to ensure they are always ready to go as and when they are needed. As soon as you are done using your electric scooter, plug it into the electrical outlet so that the battery is fully charged.
You should also keep in mind that electric scooters can take up to 4 to 6 hours to get fully charged, so it is also advisable from a safety point of view to keep it regularly charged in case you need it in an emergency.
Keep'em Cool
Although extreme heat or cold will not damage your electric mobility scooter batteries, for optimum performance it is still recommended that you keep them in a cool and dry place. For those who only use their scooters for outdoor purposes, more than likely you will not be touring the neighborhood in your scooter in the snowy winter months, therefore during this time take the batteries out of the scooter and store them inside.
Also make sure to recharge the batteries on a regular basis so that they always ready for use!
Keep'em Dry
It is very important to keep your electric scooter batteries dry. Whether riding indoors or outdoors, do your best to keep your electric scooter away from water or puddles of water as it can potentially damage the battery. If the battery does ever get wet, use a dry cloth to simply wipe the water away.
Grease‘em
Keep your electric scooter battery terminals greased - just as you would your car batteries - in order to ensure they deliver maximum performance.
