Fast Electric Scooters- Just How Fast Are Fast Electric Scooters?

When I was shopping For an electric scooter, I came across several fast electric scooters. Most of the faster scooters were primarily targeted at older kids and even, adults. While it is true that electric scooters are not as fast as their gas burning counterparts, they are still plenty fast enough to keep things fun and interesting. We will focus on the qualities of several of the faster models.

The top speed of any given model is directly related to how much "juice" their battery packs provide, and the weight of both the scooter and the rider. Most battery packs for kids electric scooters feature Two, 12 volt batteries.

Considering that most kids under 12 years of age weigh less than 120 lbs, units with this type of battery pack can frequently reach a top speed of 15 mph.

Not exactly the Daytona 500, but plenty fast enough to keep things exciting. Most kids under 12 years of age can't even RUN close to 10 mph, so it seems VERY fast to them!

Generally speaking, fast electric scooters for older kids and adults have at least a 500 watt motor, which is directly chain driven. Also, as the wattage amount of the motor increases, so does the top speed.

We even came across one model that had a 1000 watt motor, powered by FOUR, 12 volt batteries! It was relatively heavy, but still could reach a top speed of 20+ mph. Also, these more powerful units generally handle heavier riders, which influences the top speed.

It is not unusual to find a fast electric scooter that produces between 500 watts- 1000 watts. Thus, they can reach top speeds of around 25 mph, depending on the weight of the rider.

Many kids like to jump ramps and perform tricks with their electric scooters. While the top speed of the scooter is important for tricks, kids generally do them with models that go between 10 mph-15 mph.

Of course, kids are able to perform them because they are relatively lightweight.

While speed is definitely a realtive concept, one fact is for certain. Kids LOVE a fast electric scooter!
