Dance The Weight Away!

It's no secret that exercise is necessary for a successful weight loss program. One form of exercise that is almost overlooked as well as fun, is dancing. Dancing is a fantastic way to achieve quick weight loss Here are some statistics:

Belly Dancing can burn between 250 to 300 calories an hour depending on how vigorous you move.

Salsa and cumbia (my favorite) dancing is great fun and burns about 400 calories an hour.

Ballroom dancing - tango, foxtrot, twostep, waltz - can burn between 180 to 480 calories an hour depending on which dance you are doing. This is another great weight to achieve rapid weight loss.

Ballet burns about 100 calories an hour.

Rock and Roll; Hip-Hop; and Afro-Jazz can burn between 100 to 400 calories an hour.

Line dancing can utilize as much as six hundred calories per hour of constant motion.

A good example of losing weight with dancing is country music singer and songwriter Scooter Lee. In 2001, her doctor advised her that if she didn't get her life under control she was facing a major heart attack. She was grossly obese, with a body mass index of thirty five, and 150 pounds overweight! She was also suffering from breast and skin cancer, uterine cancer, and not surprisingly, was severely depressed.

Her music was very popular, and she won many awards, such as the prestigious Country Dance Artist of the Year. Many of her songs were well suited for line dancing, but at the time she did not line dance herself!

Thankfully, she followed her doctor's advice and began to line dance, alter her diet, and improve her health.

Though the damage to her joints and organs was irreversible, she eventually lost about 150 pounds in five years.

As a result she has formed a non profit company that gives dance classes world wide and touts the health benefits of dancing.

Another example is the group Step In The Name of Life . Tony Gant's grandmother really needed to engage in some form of exercise for her health. She witnessed some people performing line dance, and came to the conclusion that this would help help her on her weight loss journey. He was so impressed with the way line dancing can benefit health - including losing weight - that he started a group in Florida. They now have groups in at least 32 cities around the USA, helping people become fit, and lose weight, through line dancing.
